emShakes Theatre Co. is Emerson College’s only student theater organization devoted to Shakespeare and classic works.
emShakes creates a space for students to explore classic theater through theatrical productions, educational events, and initiatives. We aim to provide opportunities for Emerson students to practice their craft and present their work on our campus. Engaging with classical texts means necessarily that we as artists must confront outdated and problematic ideas. It is emShakes mission to cultivate a space for work that re-imagines these texts by involving diverse perspectives.
Above all, emShakes considers it vital to introduce students to classic works that they might not otherwise engage with and to create an environment in which Shakespeare can be enjoyed by anyone!
